Hunka Vinyl presents a set of two long play, extended singles, "Karaoke Life" and "Chiba Girl" by Blue Jazz TV and Billy G. Robinson.
Recorded and Mixed at Guilford Sound, near Brattleboro Vermont, by engineer/producers John Terelle and John Klett, each of the four sides, ranging from 11 to 18 minutes, is a glistening journey through BJTV's outsider pop world, offering up contrasting and dynamic vibrations to set the mood at any beach party, spa, club or bedroom. File under: altered states of consciousness and foggy dance floors. Best served with frozen margaritas (don't forget to make them blue!).
Blue Jazz TV is a Brooklyn-based band/songwriting team formed in 2009 by Max Zuckerman and Adrian Knight. Equal parts gross-out lounge popsters and sophisto DIY slouches, they have written songs about L Ron Hubbard's pleasure trips, zoophilia, Guantanamo Bay, drugs, rookies from the sticks, adult film stars, sex changes, and serial killers. After a series of home recorded albums they joined forces with multi-instrumentalist David Lackner and released "Assholes" (Galtta Media, 2015). A double music video for "Assholes" and "Power Down the Blue Sky" was directed and shot by Muller/Millar Productions and premiered on Tiny Mixtapes.
A monthly residency at the bar Troost helped shape the group's approach to live performance and resulted in an extended, ongoing collaboration with vocalist Billy G. Robinson. Mr. Robinson launched his career in music after leaving his home in Jacksonville, Florida and moving to New York in 1978. He became the lead singer for the group B.T. Express in 1980, and shifted into music production around 1997. He enjoyed a solo career with Apollo/Motown records throughout the 80s.
In 2015 the group turned to engineer/producers John Klett and John Terelle (of 80s new wave band The Hawaiian Pups) to capture a wealth of new material at Guilford Sound, a residential studio near Brattleboro, VT, that has, so far, resulted in two new albums, "Chiba Girl" and "Karaoke Life" (Hunka Vinyl, 2018). "Karaoke Life" captured the attention of Scott Kiernan (E.S.P. TV) who directed a 12-minute music video to be released alongside the albums. In the meantime, the band stayed busy performing at Magick City, the BJ Rubin Show, PioneerWorks, and countless other venues on New York's underground circuit, where they have made a habit of overusing their fog machine and slowly amassing a loyal fan base. The group is frequently joined by Michael Advensky (drums/percussion) and Alice Cohen (vocals) both for studio work and live performances.
In mid-February 2018, the group embarked on a tour of the Southeast to celebrate the releases, including stops in Asheville, Baltimore and Philadelphia.
